Being a resident assistant at the UCF Rosen College Apartments has been one roller coaster ride. I’ve had ups and I’ve had downs. But this is one summer I’ll never forget. I’m very thankful for all the experiences and memories that I made while I was here. And I’m very blessed to have such amazing residents! I will never forget the times my resies made me cupcakes, or letters or just sat down to talk to me. This is what kept me going and what made me want to stay to be an RA.
When I first took the RA job, I was just thinking that it was going to be a piece of cake and all I had to do was decorate the halls, make cupcakes and put on events. Easy enough. But little did I know, it was so much more than that! From my decorations being torn down, roommate conflicts, breaking up foreign parties, suicide scares to everything else in between. But at the end of the day, I feel like this job has made me a stronger person.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with some of the most amazing people in the world. I have become close friends with the other RA’s here at Rosen in just a few short months. We have shared laughs, tears, arguments and just about everything in between. But if anything, we are a family. We stuck up for each other and we were there for each other when we needed help. I’m really sad that we’re leaving, but I guess it’s for the best. Like one of my friends always said: “you gotta do what you gotta do.”
In about a week, I know that my life will change again as I move to main campus UCF to be an RA over at the Towers. I’m so excited to have a new start and the minute I found out I was moving there, I was ecstatic! But as I pack my things and window shop on IKEA for my new studio apartment, I look back on all the things I’ve done this semester:
I had the entire floor to myself and I had the freedom to decorate my floor. I chose to do a Mexican fiesta theme because I wanted something that was festive, fun and overall screams summer.
I’m going to miss my room so much!
Some RA’s hate it, but I love bulletin boards! I think it’s a great way to show off my creativity and make the floor come alive even more. I love graphic design, so design bulletin boards is right down my alley.
Over the course of the summer, I began calling my residents, my resies. I love them so much and they are the reason why I love being an RA. Some of them got really creative with their doors!
And some of them gave my cupcakes like this mountain dew cupcake!
And I guess I know why they love me: because I made sure that they feel welcomed! I made them welcome letters:
I also made them goodie bags full of candy with a personalized letter during finals week:
And I held a contest and gave the winner an IKEA gift card:

Of course, I got to have several floor socials as an RA. The first one I did was Latin Night, with a taco bar and a Brazilian papaya cream drink. It was a huge hit with my resies. But what was an even larger hit was my recent event: Cupcake Wars. Suggested by one of my freshman girls, this event drew a huge turnout with people from all over Rosen!
I had a blast being an RA at Rosen! I’m surely going to miss everyone, but I’ll definitely be back to visit. I’m so excited to make new memories at main campus! I’ll probably make another post on my freshman year here at Rosen. Because that’s a whole ‘nother post in itself. Heck, it’ll probably take three or more posts to talk about my amazing freshman year experience here at UCF and Rosen!
