Last month, I made a huge decision by leaving Rosen and going to main campus. I was offered the choice to remain an RA at Rosen or to be an RA at Orion (Towers at Main Campus). I ultimately chose to move to main campus because I wanted a change from the hospitality scene and live the main campus experience. I know, I am doing the complete and total opposite of everyone. Usually UCF hospitality students begin their first couple of years at main campus, then moves to Rosen in their junior or senior year. Don’t get me wrong, I had the best first two semesters of college here at Rosen. It was an unbelievable experience and I will post everything that I did last year in upcoming posts! I will never forget all the amazing experiences and people I have met at Rosen.
The minute I moved to main campus, I fell in love. I know I’ve been going to UCF for a year now, but moving to here to main made me fall in love all over again. There’s so many people, new things to do and new opportunities to explore! A month into Orion and I know that I made the right decision to move here. All my fellow RA’s have become my family and I’ve made so many friends from all over campus! And the best part is, I have the best Area Coordinator and Graduate Assistant that an RA could ask for. JP, is our AC. He’s young, funny, cool but at the same time, serious, supportive and always positive. He understands professionalism and how to truly create a family within our staff. Angela and Ali, our GA’s, are just the sweetest, nicest, supportive and most positive people I have met. I feel like I can come up to them for anything without feeling judged and nothing short of support and help! And my fellow RA’s we are BOUT DAT LIFE. Yes, that is our Orion motto (thanks JP). You have to be part of Orion to understand that. But basically, we are there for each other when the tough gets going, when we have to stay up all night working on door decorations, ACR’s and everything else in between. I love you guys so much!
But enough of all this housing stuff. Let’s talk about my room! At Rosen, we get a one bedroom apartment all to ourselves. Here at Orion, minor downgrade, we get a studio apartment.
When I first walked in, I was a little shocked at the room size since I was used to having a living room, a kitchen and a bedroom all separated. But here, it’s a hotel setup. You walk in and to your immediate left is a small hallway with a closet, then the bathroom. Then on the main room is the bedroom/living room/kitchen combined. But I thought of it as a hotel and a hotel room is what I shall get. How do I accomplish this? IKEA!
A couple of hours later, this is what my room has been transformed to…
I bought the IKEA Risor room divider and it is the centerpiece and attention grabber of my room. When you walk in, that is the first thing you’ll see. And the best part is, it’s not only for aesthetics, but it serves a purpose! It actually creates a bedroom for me! And the lighting is just perfect.
The bedsheets, the throw, the pillowcases, lamp and table are all from IKEA. Then I got the Phillips Fidelio dock for my Galaxy S2.
I got the shelving unit at IKEA, but the contents from Ross. It’s a clothing store, but they have an amazing home decor section (cheap too!). The (fake) plants are from IKEA as well!
Here’s the living room. The lamps are from IKEA. Those black things on the wall are abstract decorations I made using butcher paper rolled up, cut diagonally and hung. Then the circle mirrors I got from Jo-Ann’s. They add a more modern feel to the room.
Here’s the kitchen:
And on our last stop of my apartment is the closet/bathroom. I transformed a boring small hallway/bathroom into a cozy homey one.
I was looking through the IKEA catalog for inspiration on how to do my bathroom. There was an idea where they combined the bathroom and laundry into one. Obviously I can’t fit a washing machine and dryer into the bathroom, but instead of putting all my dirty clothes in my closet, why not put it in the bathroom!
So there you have it, my new cozy apartment! If you ever move into an empty studio apartment, instead of being down, think of all the possibilities you could do with your room! I love my new home and I mean that in every possible way!
