I rang in the new year like every year, pigging out with my friends and family. But something about this year makes it special, and it’s only January. I feel like every odd year is my year. For example in 2011, I won Mr. RHS in January. Now in 2013 I have been given a wide range of amazing opportunities and experiences!
My very first highlight of the year was O-Team retreat. Of course, what happens in retreat, stays in retreat. But what I can tell you is that we went into the retreat at 30 something strangers and we came out as a family. It was a life changing experience because I learned so much about my fellow O-Teamers and also a lot of valuable teamwork skills!
Then I found out that I got an invitation to be part of Eta Sigma Delta! Eta Sig is the hospitality honors fraternity and I did not even apply, but I got an invitation through the mail so that was amazing! Now in theory, I could do both Pi Kapp and Eta Sig…but I am absolutely swamped with my schedule! My schedule is blocked off to the point where my supervisor literally told me to put in me time. I am also part of a social fraternity, and I’ll talk more about that in the fall!
And then to wrap up this month, I found out that I got awarded the Rosen scholarship of $1000. That literally made my day! Ok, so here’s the story. I applied for the scholarship last semester. At that time, I was struggling with my algebra class and so I withdrew. But I was midway through the scholarship process and all I needed to do was say that I am still eligible for the scholarship…but since I withdrew from my algebra class, I was only taking three classes, which was under the requirements. I then emailed the scholarship committee saying that I am unable to continue further in the application process due to my credit status. They thanked me and that was that. But midway through January, I got an email saying I got the scholarship!! How crazy is that? So the moral of the story is, honesty and integrity is the best policy!
